Irony over ideological symbols. A new reading of elements familiar from childhood, raising questions about its relevance.
If we talk about the events that changed Nikita as an author, this project requires attention directly to the space and time in which the artist is located. For the author, there is no moment that divides life into “before” and “after”, as Nikita tries to be in a moment of awareness of the eternally ongoing changes every second. Only by maintaining this boundary state the ability to create something modern appears.
Each work of Nikita Nef is based on the experience gained in the specific environment of an industrial city and a solid foundation of family production traditions. Nikita has no formal art education, but in his youth spent a lot of time in the workshops of Soviet artists. This is what has influenced Nikita's artistic practice - the absence of obvious artistic solutions is closely intertwined with the fundamentality of thought.
The presented series of exhibits are symbols of a bygone era that have undergone authorial intrusion. Nikita interacts with artifacts familiar from childhood with a certain degree of irony, placing them in a new subjective frame. At the same time, the author does not seek to comment on what is happening, leaving the viewer the opportunity to form a meaning around each work independently.
